Club Swimming – What You Need To Know

In order for swimmer’s to participate as a competitive swimmer, they need to be affiliated to the following affiliates:

  1. All swimmers need to be registered with a swimming club that is affiliated to SSA and EGA. Swimmers (or parents for those who are under 18 years of age) will be required to complete an ONYX registration form, pay an annual ONYX fee and sign the terms and conditions of the club. The ONYX fee is decided and voted on at the ONYX AGM in May.
  2. Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA)
Once a swimmer is a registered member of a club and will be racing competitively for the season, they need to register with EGA who is our governing body in the District. Swimmers (or parents for those who are under 18 years of age) will be required to complete an SSA capitation form with a recent ID photo, pay an annual EGA registration fee and hand this to the ONYX Gala Secretary. The EGA fee is decided and voted on at the EGA AGM in May.
  3. Aquatics Gauteng (AG)
Aquatics Gauteng (AG) is the middle-man between EGA and SSA. All Districts fall under AG. There is also a small fee payable to AG each season, but this is included in the total fee payable to EGA when registering.
  4. Swimming South Africa (SSA)
Once all forms and proof of payment have been handed over to EGA by the ONYX committee, AG will then forward all the swimmers’ relevant documentation to SSA. SSA is our national swimming governing body. A portion of the EGA registration fee is also paid over to SSA in order to finalise the swimmer’s registration as a competitive swimmer.
  5. FINA
World swimming body that governs all rules and regulations of competitive swimming, diving and synchronised swimming.
